A) Site Quality: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/ 5
We have stayed at this campground many times before, and I have always liked the Deluxe patio sites K2 to K5. This time, we planned to stay for a week. Since it was one of our last trips of the season, we decided to splurge and choose a Deluxe site. Site K4 has the best view of the lake, but unfortunately, it was not available. Instead, we ended up at site K5.
Insights
- If you have the budget for a deluxe site, K2 – K6 would be the preferred sites. If you can land K4, book it. It has the best view of the lake from the patio.
- Budget-minded campers should aim toward Y1-Y3. These are a bit more spacious with plenty of grass. They are directly across from the playground, which may be a plus for some and not for others. X4 – X6 are also good choices for a bit more room between campers.
- The sites, for the most part, are well graveled and relatively level. You should have no problem setting up.
- Power, water, and sewer connections are mid-ship. We had no issues with the power pedestal, and the water pressure was good. I would highly recommend a filter. We have noticed that our filters, after a stay at this park, get a good workout.
B) Facilities: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/4
The good news is that the Bathhouse, Laundry, Playground, and dog walking area are all located in the bottom section of the park. This area is well-maintained, clean, and the laundry machines are in good working order.
However, the downside is that everything else, including the pool, office, and an additional playground, is located at the top of the property. Getting there requires a bit of a hike, so you may want to use a golf cart or your car if you want to reach the pool quickly. Otherwise, be prepared to get your steps in!
During our stay, the pool was not open. However, on a previous visit, it was open and appeared to be well cared for. The staff in the office are friendly, and the office itself is well-stocked with various items that might be useful during your stay.
C) Amenities: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/4
As mentioned earlier, the Wi-Fi during peak times at the campground can be somewhat unreliable. However, we had no issues with our cell phones and enjoyed excellent 5G coverage while we were there. For us, the bathhouse and laundry facilities are the most important amenities since we don’t spend much time at the pool. Both the bathhouse and laundry are located within a short walk in the lower section of the campground. If you have a dog, you’ll find a large dog walk conveniently situated right behind the bathhouse.
D) Location: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5
You’re just minutes away from Chautauqua Lake and everything it has to offer. We love this location because it provides opportunities to dine near the lake in Mayville or Bemus Point. The Chautauqua Institution, known for its great concerts, is only a short drive away. There are also nearby state parks where you can hike and explore. Additionally, Jamestown features the National Comedy Center and the Lucy Desi Museum.
Wanderers Overall Rating: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️.5/5
Previous Tips & Upgrades
SoftStart Install
I’ve joined the club, SoftStart club that is. We will be headed to Canada this summer and I knew we will be facing a number of 30amp sites on our journey. We wanted to be sure we had both our AC units available during our stay. After watching a number of YouTube videos describing the installation and how they worked, I was sold.
Drawer Dividers
The age-old problem in most kitchens that calls for dividers in the drawers to keep your stuff organized. No one likes to reach into a drawer only to find that you have to dig to the bottom to find what you need. On an RV this can be particularly frustrating as the “Stuff” gets put into the rough road blender and scattered in the drawers.
Traveling With Dogs
Traveling with your pets and in our case Zoey a 75 lb. Yellow Labrador was one of the primary reasons we wanted an RV. Boarding Zoey every time we wanted to take a vacation or just day trip or two was just not working. Once we committed to the RV lifestyle we learned rather quickly that this would call for some advance planning. Our new challenge would be preparing for a month or longer trips. We have put together a shortlist of some tips and suggestions we have for traveling with your dog, big or small. This certainly is not a definitive list and we would love to hear from you regarding your preparation. So let’s get started with some of the basics
AC Silencer
The WackO Products DA100 is an air conditioner silencer kit that allows you to run your A/C unit without all the noise. Never try listening to your TV over your air conditioner or being kept awake by the unbearable noise ever again.
Tire Pressure Monitor
We have heard hundreds of stories from RVers relating to tire failure. Some of the tire failure issues an RVer may encounter can be a minor nuisance and some failures can be catastrophic.
