RV Overnight Park Review – Heritage RV Park – Augusta, Georgia
Premium Site 62 Back – In, Typical of most available Premium sites at this park.
This would not be a holiday or vacation location in our opinion. However, if your looking for a short stay to visit with a family member that might be stationed at FT Gordon and you are not military this is minutes away from Gate #1. Maybe you are headed east on I-20 to the beaches of GA or South Carolina, the perfect spot to overnight is right here. Fortunate enough to have tickets to the 2020 Masters Tournament, they have a special rate for you, and Augusta National is but 15 to 20 mins away.
Update: 4/21/2021 Here is some very good news for this RV park. They have opened a new section of sites designated “under construction” on their site map.
It appears that it will be called the C section. The sites are wide with nice separation from your neighbor. The is plenty of room to maneuver your rig for back in. We liked sites 5,6,7 just off the entry road. These sites back up to the woods in the northeast part of the campground.

A) Site Quality: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5
The premium sites are crushed stone surrounded by concert edging. They are level and you will typically find them raked with your name and reservation attached to a sign holder near the power tower in each site. Each of these sites has a good size concrete patio, aluminum picnic table, green space that is being watered, and a large Crepe Myrtle or two. The grounds crew are pretty diligent about the sites keeping them looking great. You will find 30/50 amp power at each, sewer hookups, and great water pressure. The roads in and out of the park are gravel and kept in good shape.
Insights
- Disclaimer, we have a family that has just moved to Augusta. My son-in-law will be stationed at Ft. Gordon for the next three years. This is the only civilian site anywhere near the base.
- The sites in this park are but for two all back-in. They do have two short-term pull-through sites near the front of the park. One for larger rigs the other for smaller campers. Don’t let the back-in only scare you away from this park. There is ample road space to jack your rig or turn your class a to get into the sites. If you are pulling a 5th wheel and want the easiest back in I would suggest sites 62-65. There is an open road just ahead of those sites for easy maneuvering.
- You will not find a bunch of shade at this park. There are large pines scattered around but not enough to shade your rig. This, of course, gives you a great line of site for your dish if you have one.
- They do not allow yearly stays in this park. There are a number of monthly and longer patrons that can be found in the western and eastern fence lines. Many seem to be military as I mentioned FT Gordon is just around the corner.
- New construction in the north end of the park looks to be completed by the end of this summer. It appears that they will be like the premium sites I describe above, back in and close to a tree line with a south to north nose orientation.
- We will be back as this is the only civilian park in the area. Our family is checking into the military RV park on Ft Gordon for us. This might be an option the next time we are in Augusta.
B) Facilities: ⛺️/5
The office is about all you will find here. The staff of one, Mike is very helpful always and accommodating and will guide you to your site. You will not find a bathhouse, bathrooms, or any facilities for that matter at this park.
C) Amenities: ⛺️⛺️/5
Again but for the free wi-fi which is very good but limited to two devices is all you are getting here. Did I mention the water pressure was good, that might be the other. This is just a good, clean and safe spot to pull over for the night and not be at a Walmart or Loves.
D) Location: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5
The park can be found off Interstate 20 at exit 194 heading south on Jimmie Dyess Parkway. Located on Wrightsboro RD it mins away from downtown Augusta or any of the other points of interest in the area. It is surprisingly quiet for being located near a parkway. We felt safe and they have camera surveillance of the entire park. Access in and out of the park is easy with very little traffic to maneuver in. Groceries, fast food, sit-down restaurants are close.
E) Paw – Friendliness – 🐾🐾🐾.5/5
Zoey gave this park, three and a half paws. There is no dog run and the trash barrels are pretty spread apart. You can give the dog a good walk around the park and you will find some grassy areas near the north end of the area. Wrightsboro RD and its sidewalks provided a nice place to walk Zoey in the mornings.

SoftStart Install
I’ve joined the club, SoftStart club that is. We will be headed to Canada this summer and I knew we will be facing a number of 30amp sites on our journey. We wanted to be sure we had both our AC units available during our stay. After watching a number of YouTube videos describing the installation and how they worked, I was sold.
Drawer Dividers
The age-old problem in most kitchens that calls for dividers in the drawers to keep your stuff organized. No one likes to reach into a drawer only to find that you have to dig to the bottom to find what you need. On an RV this can be particularly frustrating as the “Stuff” gets put into the rough road blender and scattered in the drawers.
Traveling With Dogs
Traveling with your pets and in our case Zoey a 75 lb. Yellow Labrador was one of the primary reasons we wanted an RV. Boarding Zoey every time we wanted to take a vacation or just day trip or two was just not working.
