Land Of Waterfalls RV Park

Written By Dale Libby

I was bitten by the RV bug at a very early age. The day my dad brought home that 12′ pull behind camper my world changed. Tent camping was fine but this rig had running water, toilet, shower, beds and a small stovetop. Times have changed but my love for RVing never dieded.

Full Hook-Up – $60.00 per night
A) Site Quality: ⛺️⛺️⛺️.5/ 5

This small campground was carved out a side of a hill off RT 64 on your way to Brevard, NC. There are 11 sites available with full 50amp hook-up. They are all gravel large rock level sites with your door orientation on the pull-through sites facing southeast. We were on site 10 one of the narrowest sites on the property. We had room to put out the awnings and the slides but it was tight. As they advertise you do have a nice view of the mountain from your door side.

Insights
  • This is a relatively new RV campground. As I mentioned it is small and has very few amenities. The manager lives on-site at the moment. Check-in is all online, questions if any are answered very quickly via text or email.
  • We had a bit of trouble getting into our site due to the lack of instructions available at check-in. The on-site manager was not in at the time. We took what we thought would be the approach to the site and ended up needing to rethink our approach. You will need to proceed straight up the drive go out the property at the rear and come back down the access road to the sites. That was not clear and we came close to clipping our center and rear jacks on our first try.
  • I would suggest you consider sites 7-9 for pull through and 1,2 or 5 for back in. They all offer large sites with plenty of room to spread out. The back-in sites toward the front of the property are very spacious and wooded. You may have an issue with satellite reception if that is your primary TV access.

B) Facilities: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5 The booking and check-in take place online. There is an on-site manager staying on the campground in site 3. He will come out and greet you if he happens to be in at the time. The check-in process is very easy and somewhat informative. I would have liked to see better instructions regarding the approach to the site included. All of the rest of the rules are clearly spelled out for you.

C) Amenities: ⛺️⛺️/5

I am comparing this campground to the numerous other parks we have stayed at. The location offers you a full hook-up and internet. There is a nice little cabin as you enter the park that serves as a lounge. It offers a coffee machine and sitting area. There are no bathhouses or laundry rooms here. They do have a very nice fire pit area near the front of the property with Adirondack chairs for seating. This is fenced in from the road and offers a nice retreat from your site. The power posts are very good, water will well and the internet is good enough to stream. There is no cable service so you will be using your batwing or sat for TV. As mentioned above the site 1-5 have rather large pines so the sat may have an issue.

D) Location: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5

This park is all about the location of the Smokey Mountains. You are roughly 15 mins from the access to the Pisgah Forest and some amazing waterfalls and sites. Turn east or west out of the park and you will have a short ride to either downtown Bevard or Henderson. Each will offer plenty of food options for you and plenty to see and do. For us, it’s all about the proximity to the Blue Ridge parkway. Take a half-hour drive to the northeast and you in Asheville, NC another great town to explore and enjoy.

E) Paw – Friendliness – 🐾🐾🐾/5

I had to take away a couple of paws based on Zoey’s recommendation. She missed a fenced-in area in the RV park to run free. You will be able to relieve your dog near the fence line but that is about it. They do offer a waste station near the entry cabin.

Wanderers Overall Rating:  ⛺️⛺️⛺️.8/5

Wanderers Take

This might not be the campground for everyone. If you’re looking for all the amenities of the larger resorts, they’re not here. However, if you are looking for a great location close to the mountains this might be it.

Local Things To Do

Rangers House WildflowersCradle Of Forestry Nestled in Pink Beds Valley is the Cradle of Forestry in America. This heritage site is the birthplace of science-based forest management. George and Edith Vanderbilt of the nearby Biltmore Estate are accredited for this living legacy. Some 87,000 aces of the Vanderbilt’s “Pisgah Forest” tract became the nucleus of the Pisgah National Forest, established in 1916.

You will find this treasure a short ride from the RV Campground west on 64 and north on RT 276. We would highly recommend an early morning walk around this special Forestry Campus. We took the Biltmore Campus and Forest Festival trails with our dog, Zoey.

The trails are paved and the sights this spring were quiet and beautiful. The Biltmore trail will wind through the Forestry Campus with its impressive and historic buildings. The Forest Festival trail will walk you past tree plantations and antique equipment.

Zoey and The Spring FlowersThe North Carolina Arboretum Yet another fantastic place to take a walk with the dog or hike the many trails around the property. Spring is a perfect time to visit. The park is lit up with many of our spring favorites, tulips, azaleas, redbud, dogwoods, and daffodils to name a few.

Take Rt 64 toward Brevard to the four-way light. Turn right on the Asheville HYW Rt 280 about 16 miles to Old Haywood Road. It will take you right to the Arboretum.

Below I have included a short video I shot while at the park a few years back. Spring, Summer, or Fall you will enjoy the beauty of the area and have a great walk.

We have heard hundreds of stories from RVers relating to tire failure. Some of the tire failure issues an RVer may encounter can be a minor nuisance and some failures can be catastrophic.

You have finally decided that the RV and Car fill up lanes are not for you when it comes to filling your RV fuel tanks. Highway driving takes you past numerous Travel Centers and you have seen your fellow RVer’s in the Truck Fuel Lanes. Why not give it a go, can’t be that much different from what we are doing now. They say it’s much faster to fuel that way and there is DEF at the pumps.

We use our truck on and off through the year to haul, yard debris, landscaping, mulch and such. The hitch is a 175 lb problem when you want a clean bed to work with. Ginny and I thought we could easily handle the hitch once we took it apart. Not so as we found out,...

DC Move In

DC Move In

The primary reason we purchased the RV was to visit with family. The secondary reason is to be on call when we are needed. We were needed in Ft. Belvoir, VA to help with a move to a new Military assignment for our Son-In-Law, Daughter, and grandson. It had been some time since we visited the east coast. We lived in NYC for several years during our working days. We knew this was not going to be a budget visit, nor would it be a pleasure to drive in our 35″ Grand Design Solitude 310GK-R in that traffic.

Carolina On My Mind

Carolina On My Mind

There is nothing like a ride through the Carolina pines in the spring. We love the Smokie Mountains, Blue Ridge Parkway, and the shores of North Myrtle Beach. Our good friends in Atlanta have been wanting for us to join them in the North Georgia mountains near Ellijay. The pandemic slowed that to a halt as of last March. Now that we are all fully vaccinated we are looking forward to getting together in the coming weeks.

The itinerary will take us down to Ellijay, GA then south to Augusta. We will then head northeast to North Myrtle Beach, spend the week and then head back to the Smokie Mountains near Pisgah, NC. We can’t wait to get back on the road and off to some of our favorite places to visit. Here is a rundown of the parks we will be visiting. Some of them have been old standby’s, others will offer a new adventure.

Vegas Slow Go

Vegas Slow Go

It was an all hands on deck moment. We had to get to Vegas. Ginny’s mon was in the hospital there and was not doing well. After a week and a half of tests, prods, and pokes, they were going to release her. It was going to be imperative for us to be there to help with home care. We both had concerns about COVID and travel. We have been living in QPI, quiet, peaceful, isolation. I will do my best to give you a snapshot of precautions and COVID protocols at each RV Park.
