Mustang Run RV Park

Mustang Run RV Clubhouse

Written By Dale Libby

I was bitten by the RV bug at a very early age. The day my dad brought home that 12′ pull behind camper my world changed. Tent camping was fine but this rig had running water, toilet, shower, beds and a small stovetop. Times have changed but my love for RVing never dieded.

RV Park Review – Mustang Run RV Park – Oklahoma City, OK

Main Building Mustang Run RV Park

Main Building and Office Mustang Run

This park is just off of I-40 and on the west side of Okla City, Ok. So about anything you need is very close. Check-in is quick and easy, the folks at the front desk and helpful and happy. You are paying for convenience and location here. They are a GoodSams location.

A) Site Quality: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5

All the sites are paved wide concrete streets and level pads with ample seating at the sites. You will find picnic tables and plenty of grass between the sites. All of the sites have 30/50 amp, water, sewer, and cable. The water pressure is very high so be sure to use your pressure gauge.  I particularly like the 3 tornado shelters, however, as a side note, they do not let pets into these shelters.

33 of the 51 sites are pull-through with the remainder being back in. The back-in sites were taken up by the long-term patrons. The bulk of the pull-through max sites measure approximately 90′. There is plenty of room for your tow vehicle or toad to park in front of or behind your rig.  There are very few trees on the property so your shade will be provided by your awning.

Pull-through sites 42-61 orientation will have your nose pointing south-east, and the door of your rig pointing slightly southwest. Sites 1-7 will have your nose pointing southwest and your door to the northwest. Sites 8-13 will have your nose point southeast and your door northeast.

Insights

  • We have stayed at this location on two occasions, site #47 and #48. The park is located south of I-40 on a service road and is very easy off the highway and on to the park. The park exit is another story, you will be making a left across 4 lanes of traffic to access I-40 in either direction. You can exit right, go to the light turn left, and run through the grocery store parking lot to get headed north
  • As I mentioned you are very close to I-40 so expect road noise most of the day and night. It might be a little less if you get to the south end of the park, sites 51-54 or 42-44.
  • The roads are freeway wide so you will have no issues with getting in or out of your site.  The sewer connections are at ground level with a concrete pad around them so your business will run downhill 🙂
B) Facilities: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5

You have laundry, a restroom, and a large shower located conveniently in the main building. They are very spacious and well cared for. The machines are in good working order, one dryer out of four was down. Additionally, you will find a great sitting area, pool table, and games in that same building.

C) Amenities: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5

Storm shelters, a large family pool, playground, covered porch with gas grill and tables along with and good wi-fi and cable. We were able to stream using the free wifi with our router. Our Verizon cell service was very good in the area, no need for a booster.  A word about the storm shelters, these are godsent in this part of the country.  You will run into dicey weather in Oklahoma and you will be grateful. The downside is that you will not be able to bring your animal with you. So with that said the facility suggests you go to the interior of the main building with your pet. This would be our lot in life as we will not let our dog stay in the RV while we are taking shelter.

D) Location: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5

The park is located directly off I-40 and 20 mins from downtown Oklahoma City. Groceries and fast food are a short hop away. I dinged the location one due to the road noise from I-40.

E) Paw – Friendliness – 🐾🐾🐾🐾/5

Zoey gave this park, a big paws up approval. They have a convenient dog run near the north end of the park. It has plenty of grass and bags for your pet’s business. Zoey and I like to take a good walk in the morning or prior to leaving on our next segment. This was a good park to walk around. You would need to circle it about 4 times to get a good mile in. Lots of grass could use a few more garbage cans for the occasional business stop.

Wanderers Overall Rating:  ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️.5/5

Wanderers Take:

This is a very well-run and new RV park. The concrete throughout the park is in fantastic condition. Streets, pads, sidewalks the works not a crack to be found. I like the fact that there is a green space between the pads and near the main building. You can walk to the grocery store or fast food locations if you want to get a little exercise. Otherwise most every convenience is a quick drive away.

The one factor I would take into consideration when booking this location is the weather. Now I know it is hard to forecast out but you will run into it as we did some very fierce weather. This happened both times we stayed, forcing us to leave a day early. We dashed further east to avoid severe weather during the month of April. Would we stay at this location again? Yes, absolutely with would stay. It is conveniently located on the highway, the city and all the local attractions we wanted to visit.

As for those attractions and things to do while visiting we can highly recommend a couple.

Ginny and I were not big fans of your factory entrance door handle. With our set up, the interior shade would partially block the interior grip. Additionally there was very little room to grab the handle to close the door.
