North Myrtle Beach RV Resort

NMB Entry Sign

Written By Dale Libby

I was bitten by the RV bug at a very early age. The day my dad brought home that 12′ pull behind camper my world changed. Tent camping was fine but this rig had running water, toilet, shower, beds and a small stovetop. Times have changed but my love for RVing never dieded.

Update – April 25, 2021

New Construction NMBThe park is currently expanding its sites and adding 66 new RV sites on the east side of the property. It appears that the plumbing and drainage are in place. The property is graded and I would expect they will start putting in the pads and drives shortly. At the moment there is very little going on so construction noise is not an issue. The construction is due to be completed in 2022.

For us, this continues to be a go-to location in North Myrtle. Its proximity to the beach can not be beaten. The site with the exception of the back-in sites near the east fencing are very level and spacious.

As a side note, we did make a trip up to Carolina Pines RV Resort and their construction is completed. It is about 25 mins west of North Myrtle Beach up I-90. If your preference is amenities this might be your location.

A) Site Quality: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️.3 / 5

We have always loved the shoreline of South Carolina near the NC border. We spent many a summer at Holden Beach, NC renting an oceanside home. The crowds you find in Myrtle Beach are not there. It’s quiet, great beaches and there is plenty of fresh seafood. We wanted to find something similar in an RV park. There are many relatively close to the ocean, some right on the beach. However, the summer rates, congestion, golf carts, and just general packed-in feeling were not for us. Toss in the daily rates of over $100 plus and it just was not worth it to us.

North Myrtle Beach RV Resort is on the Intracoastal near Little River, SC, and a 15 min drive to the public beaches. This seemed like a perfect location for us. You have the intercoastal, quick access to the beaches and a short drive to some of our favorite spots in NC and SC. Now let us get to our insights on the park.

Insights
  • This is a relatively new RV park coupled with a Boat Dry Dock and Marina. This seems to be a perfect location if you are a boating enthusiast. The intercoastal is at your doorstep.
  • I dinged this location 3/4 of a tent due to the lack of shade trees and the sewer and utility hook-up locations on a number of the sites. For instance, back in sites 115 – 129 are set up for a camper with rear utilities and sewer. You will need to use at least two sewer hoses if you are like most RV’s, midship utilities. The other issue was the drop-off near the front of these sites. If you are longer than 35ft you will need some serious jack pads to level your rig.
  • Upon arrival, the staff was cheerful, happy to see you, and check-in was very easy. There is no escort to your site, but that did not pose a problem as the directions were very clear. This is a gated park with personal at that gate during business hours. You will be given a gate key to enter the property.
  • They have a limited number of pull-through sites, 99-114. We were in 114 at the end of the property. The sites are large with plenty of green space between rigs. The orientation is nose to the NW and tail to the SE with your door facing east. Utilities in these sights were properly located for large rigs, mid-ship.
  • The rest of the property consists of back-in sites. Most if not all have good green space between them. You will be butt to butt with the RV parked behind you. There is ample space to jack your rig into the spaces.
  • If you are concerned about backing your rig in, I would recommend sites 27-40. Captains Lane is wide and you should be able to jack your rig into these slots with ease. There will be no one parking across the street from you like you find in the middle section of the park.

B) Facilities: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5  This is truly waterfront camping. Yes, you are on the intercoastal and not the Atlantic Ocean. The property is gated and manned from 8 am to 6 pm daily. Once through the gates, you will head straight down Captians Lane to the office complex located near the waterfront. This building serves as the check-in, grocery, small laundry, RV, and fishing supply.

The check-in is quick and easy, the staff is friendly and welcoming. The boat storage will be clearly in view as your head to the office. It is a rather large building on the south side of the property. There you will find additional parking if you need it. Be aware that they have recently changed their trailer rules, please check the website for clarity. There is very little shade to be found on the entire property. You will have ample room to deploy your awning and any other type of tent or pop-up on your site.

C) Amenities: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5

Hard to find holes with their offerings in this category. You will find a 3800 sq ft pool area with a waterfall and 150ft waterside. This pool during the weekend particularly is very crowded. Directly right of the pool there is a large fire pit, snack bar, and seating area. Moving further to the north of the property there is a large fenced-in playground with Intercoastal view seating. As you head toward the office complex Corn Hole and Horseshoe Court greet you.

Ginny and I spent a number of evenings sitting on the swings near the intercoastal with great views of the river. Outside of the few dings on the location for the utilities, I mentioned above, the bulk of the sites are 50/30 amp with water and sewage. They offer cable and very good wifi. The cell service was excellent, we used Verizon. There was a cell tower just outside the property, not sure which provider. The main shower, laundry, and bathrooms are located next to the pool. Additionally, you will find three other bathhouses conveniently located throughout the property. One additional dump station with a pull-off is located near the exit of the property.

D) Location: ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️/5

I could complain about the fact that I had to drive 10 to 15 mins. to get to the public beach in NMB. But that would mean I would have to be staying at a Resort that is overcrowded, with tons of golf carts, and teens trying to drive them. Where not, we are at what I think might be the best location in or near the Myrtle Beach area. You are minutes away from very good restaurants, shopping, groceries, golf, and the beach. Want to rent pontoons, jet skis, kayaks, and more there at your doorstep. Deep-Sea fishing tours are conveniently located near the park.

E) Paw – Friendliness – 🐾🐾🐾🐾/5

I had to take away one paw based on Zoey’s recommendation. She missed a fenced-in area in the RV park. The park offers or should I say has several large grassed areas to relieve your dog. You will find garbage cans near the bathhouses to dispose of your waste. Getting a good walk-in during the morning hours is important to Zoey. The park offers wide streets to make that work. We could easily get in 1.5 to 2 miles in by circling the property a few times. In general, I would say they are a pet-friendly location, just missing 5 stars.

Wanderers Overall Rating:  ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️.7/5

Wanderers Take

This might be the best RV park located on the Strand. There are more shaded locations, maybe closer to the beach but dollar for dollar this Park has the rest beat hands down. A brand new Super Park is being constructed north of this location about 20 mins called Carolina Pines. We took a ride out to see what the park was all about. It was only partially open but our feeling was that it might have the potential to be a good second choice. The drawback is the drive to all the that is Myrtle Beach, it is a haul to get to the coastline.

I enjoy a round of golf or two while we are out and one of my favorite courses Tidewater is located just around the corner from the park. Couple that with convenient access to major parkways and byways and all that is the Grand Strand is at your doorstep. This will be our go-to location for Myrtle Beach stays.

Final Look

As I mentioned above we do plan to come back to this location. We will be keeping an eye on Carolina Pines but I am afraid that might become a golf cart nightmare on the weekends once it is completed. Now that might be what you are looking for and more power to you. We enjoy a bit more of a laid-back atmosphere.

Here is a recommendation if you do go. Be sure to load the Passport parking app for easy public beach paid parking. This will save you a little time and trouble.

Truma AquaGO Comfort Water Heater

Truma AquaGO Comfort Water Heater

We decided to invest in our 310GK-R and upgrade the Hot Water Heater. We were tired of the rotten egg smell regardless of the aluminum or magnesium anode rods or what I did to clean the tank out. Our Suburban Water heater was working fine, but it was time for a change. Long hot showers on city water and conservation while boondocking was the priority to make this move.

Keeping A RV Cool In Extreme Heat

Keeping A RV Cool In Extreme Heat

The easy fix would be to find that perfect site. The one that has plenty of shade with your nose facing west and your butt facing east. However, that is a fantasy in today’s world when it comes to finding a site. You do not always have the intel to understand what your getting into or the resort randomly places you on the property. Awnings are great and provide some needed shade.   If you plan to step away from the rig for any length of time you will not want to leave them extended.

Power Make Over

Power Make Over

The first order of business once we had decided on the Solutiude 310GK-R was the batteries. After researching battery types, solar compatibility, and recommendation from other RVers we landed on Battle Born Ion Lithium. Battle Born batteries can provide you with two to three times more power than a lead-acid battery which allows you to stay off the grid longer without having to hassle with a noisy generator. Battle Born Batteries are also capable of being charged up to five times faster than a standard lead-acid battery. Now we can put our battery anxieties to rest and finally focus on our next RV adventure.

Drawer Dividers

Drawer Dividers

The age-old problem in most kitchens that calls for dividers in the drawers to keep your stuff organized. No one likes to reach into a drawer only to find that you have to dig to the bottom to find what you need. On an RV this can be particularly frustrating as the “Stuff” gets put into the rough road blender and scattered in the drawers.

Traveling with your pets and in our case Zoey a 75 lb. Yellow Labrador was one of the primary reasons we wanted an RV. Boarding Zoey every time we wanted to take a vacation or just day trip or two was just not working. Once we committed to the RV lifestyle we learned rather quickly that this would call for some advance planning. Our new challenge would be preparing for a month or longer trips. We have put together a shortlist of some tips and suggestions we have for traveling with your dog, big or small. Soaring Diesel fuel prices have forced us to reevaluate our travel during the summer months. We had a rather ambitious itinerary that would take us from Nashville to Jasper, Canada. This featured numerous National Parks and sites along the way and covered almost 6,000 miles. We scraped that after a year of planning and focused on local short hops.

MORryde IS Upgrade

MORryde IS Upgrade

Five plus years of OEM suspension on our Open Range Roamer tested every inch of that RV. Many times described as an earthquake happening on wheels, we can attest to that. We took painstaking efforts to tie down, brace, or lock in items we thought would be displaced. Trip after trip we would find something ajar, broken, or lying on the floor. My first fix on the old rig was to replace the suspension with the MORryde SRE 4000 suspension system. That helped a bit but I knew there was another answer.
